Aberdeen have been known as the Dons since 1909, however the origin of the nickname has become a mystery.

During the mid-18th to mid-20th centuries, Aberdeen's buildings incorporated locally quarried grey granite, which may sparkle like silver because of its high mica content.

However it was recorded in the early twelfth century as 'Aberdon', referring to the Old Aberdeen settlement by the River Don. The present form of the name seems to have begun to occur from the late twelfth or early thirteenth century, being recorded as 'Aberdoen' in 1178 and 'Aberden' in 1214.

The DeYoung Family Zoo is located in Wallace, Michigan and owned by Bud DeYoung and Carrie Cramer. It opened to the public in 1990.
