This bread was super easy and a big hit with my family. I didn't have self-rising flour on hand; so, I sub'd 1 c whole wheat flour, 2 c all purpose flour 4 tsp baking powder and 3/4 tsp kosher salt. I used Sam Adam's White Christmas. My loaf came out to ~24 oz (2 oz/slice) I will make again. - 12/3/13

I added 1/2 teaspoon of Italian Seasoning and a pinch of garlic powder to recipe for pasta night. Next time I would add just a little more garlic, but it was awesome. Incredibly easy to make and a joy to share with others. - 2/15/15

I have made this recipe FOR YEARS. If you like the top crusty, leave out to firm up as it cools. If you like a softer top, cover with foil right away. If the top is what you like most and need it faster, portion it out into a muffin tin. - 2/15/18

Easy and delicious. I made my own self-rising flour by adding 4 tsp baking powder. Added 1 tsp salt. Used 1/4 c sugar, still quite sweet. Subbed 1/2 c Red Fife whole wheat flour and 1/4 c. buckwheat flour for 3/4 c of white flour. Poured the melted butter over as suggested. Used dark beer. Delish! - 2/20/20

Soooo easy and fast! Didn't have dark beer. Had beer left by some friends. Used a bottle but tasted the batter before baking. Found it a bit tart so I sprinkled sugar on top and melted the butter on top as someone suggested. Really good! Would make again. - 2/15/16

There's something wrong with the sodium listed. I created a recipe with the above ingredients, 12 servings - and the SODIUM = 401.2 MG. So, if you're watching your salt intake, be aware that the sodium per slice is a lot higher than the SP recipe states!!! - 2/15/21

Disappointed the bread was so heavy, dense and sweet. Recipe didn't mention if the beer should be room temp or cold, I made mine at room temp. I still have half a bottle of beer left I will try it again "flat" & left dough rest for 30 min before baking to see if that helps. Going to cut sugar to. - 2/18/19
